With heavy hearts we join our neighbors in mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Eileen Markenstein, president of The Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery and a beloved member of Jersey City’s community, who passed away on Monday.
Eileen will be buried on Saturday in the Historic Jersey City and Harsimus Cemetery, of which she has been called “a patron saint, and unyielding champion“.
(Eileen Markenstein – Obituary)
To help prepare for the service and to honor Eileen’s memory, the JC parks community has asked for help:
“Due to Covid 19 and the lack of volunteers over the last several months the Harsimus Cemetery grounds are in rough shape and need attention. The parks group lost a special person and will be working at Harsimus Cemetery on Thursday & Friday between 9 am – 5 pm. to clean up, prune, etc
Volunteers should bring brooms, shears, clippers or the like if available. This has been a request made on behalf of the dear departed Eileen Markenstein.
Please email if you have time to spare and help.
Thank you, neighbors.”
If you are able to volunteer please email us at email@example.com
